Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

He was old to me
But I was young.
He stood steady as we played
beneath him.
I think he liked us there.
We grew up with him
And he loved us
as we loved him
And he loved the jawbreakers
we brought him from town.
Up and down
His head went
Up and down
Nodding as he savored each
and his tail swished away the flies
He almost seemed to smile
as if to say
I trained them well.
Try to ride him though!
He only knew one way
one direction
that led to home.
He thrilled a young girl’s heart
and now – he lives in her memory.
And now – maybe yours too.
Oh!
Did I tell you
that he went into the kitchen
and ate the centers out of four pumpkin pies.
That is what legends are made of.
The legend of Rondo.
More than a horse
More than a family member.
He is a legend in my own time.
