Silent Witness

Where are the heroes,
that walk upon land,
that take up the pain,
within their own hand,
and quell,
with a vengeance,
the weeping within,
where are the heroes?
Not here.

You bore silent witness
to all I endured.
You came when I called,
in a voice
gone unheard
by those who stood near
within touch
within reach
you came
when the whispers
from my lips
beseeched
don’t leave me.

Where are the heroes,
who speak of what's right?
yet close their eyes
to the imperfect sight
of golden curls
caught up
in a pyre of shame
of a twisted emotion
an angry mans game
where are the heroes?
Not here.

You bore silent witness
to a voice filled with tears,
I was caught in strong arms
that cradled my fears,
and agony wasn’t
my friend alone,
for you stepped in
and offered
your heart as my home.
and I loved you
all the more
for your kindness.

Where is my hero?
why did he need go?
was heaven in need,
of him
more so
than I,
oh I need him
and how I miss his soft voice
tenderly lifting
me,
I would rejoice
to hear once again
in his gentle tone,
no more tears,
now...
you’re not alone.

Dedicated to the Memory of Dennis Baril, my hero. With a special thank you to Ruth, who helped me to admit Dennis died. (I said it, Ruth)

seraphin,

I feel honored to be the first to post on your heartfelt, well presented poem.  It redefines a hero with great passion and tenderness.
(I'd like to save this, if its ok.)

although heartbreaking, this is also uplifting by a sense of new founded perspective...bittersweet, longing, and brute honesty of emotions, God if there were only one emotion, huh.

I believe there is a bridge between there and here, and he is standing in the middle right now, smiling...

love to you hun

misc and lee,
I feel so strange saying "thank you" for this particular work. It has taken me over a year to accept this loss. I've moved in circles, stepping forward, then side-stepping issues, relationships, etc. Ruth had written "Eclipse" and it perfectly echoed my actions. Sleeping with a memory. I do go on, so sorry. Misc, of course you may save this.
Thank you both for reading.

Sandra

You reached me deeply.  I can't tell you how I feel right this moment because my mind is clouded with emotions.  This is truly heart-wreching and beautiful.  I don't know you, but you make me want to know you.

sandra, this is so heartbreakingly beautiful, the emotion behind the words just enveloped me while reading.

The mind admits things when the heart is ready to begin to accept it .. you make me want to just hug you so tight.

Sandra, I know that Nan is working on
a memorial page for some future date...

and I believe we would all be honored if,
when that time comes, you might slip this
beautiful memorial in there for all time.

Acceptance comes...and we gather it in,
closely...

thank you for the tears of this.  Writing,
like this, comes to us when it is supposed to,
be it for the writer, or the reader.

seraphin,

Thank you.  I'll treasure this.  Loss has always been very difficult for me.  Your poem has given me a different perspective.  Thanks again.
