Fly-away, fly-away, fly-away, hair
in my dry, so dry, South African air
and long is the winter of discontent
lingering so like a fly that won’t go
from the sweetness of every dream.

But under the covers of everyday
the imposing fortress of mind’s hideaway
never closes its doors to refugees
from the pain of remembered love ~
and this like a chest stores memories
all neatly laid out on the floor.

Tip-toe between or kick them away
or hold to a breast like mother to child
but one and all cry, “Hold me, hold me”
and I stand undecided sometimes.

Walk and I do the so narrow aisles
but always go back to the start
to feel again you within and without
and smile/cry, smile/cry, smile/cry _
and I wonder, I wonder, why, why, why,
it catches my eye all the time.

It must be gold glittering
or lace fine woven and sheer
but it’s only the fire of love’s desire
burning, burning, in memory!

Helen, I do like this one a bunch...it describes how those memories haunt so well...yes, they are like refugees...like that analogy, too.  *hugs*....jo

Thanks, Jo.  Well, in the scheme of things I guess it's better than being a refugee from a war-torn country so, could I say I'm "blessed"?

Helen....Anyone that has known love, is blessed, especially if the memory does not turn bitter.
