Center

midnight
a serenade of darkness
sheer against bare skin
and silence is in the sound
of my heart closely clinging
to a man with smoky hair
as the summer’s heated air
evaporates thickly around me
a voice my soul recognizes
says when I don’t recall asking
tenderly the center word
always

just some words cut from
the diary of my heart

Write on!

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
