Listening to every heart

Roasting [It Seems]

Among a slipping stream of fire flies
that dance to chirring katydids,
where ample is this summer’s eve
full bodied and bosomed warm

Summer breathes through liquid air

Yet dead are footfalls of yester’s eve
for gone are lonely steps
of parched souls gone airborne
escaping some concrete hell

No one place is left to be
yet we increase warming
by making false cool
just so one can breathe

~*~

Was it I who took
the young squirrel’s life?
There was water in the bowl;
what about the jay who died,
or the bambi baby who lost
her battle
last night?

And what about the bags
those that are stacked with bodies ~
does any city cry?

Or do they [the living]
drive their power cars
making heat in driving cool
along parkways of black asphalt
emitting, emitting streams of dead souls
through heated words, some
explicative, that it’s hot!

Do they just not know?

That [indeed]
we are our worst enemy,
it seems.

" It matters not this distance now  " Excerpt, Yesterday's Love

Oh dear Sun, such truth ... yes, smoldering.
I don't believe I have seen a summer like
this...supposedly in the early 80s there
was a time that was about as hot, but for
a longer duration...

Let's hope those that have much less than us
make it through these times.

.. and still our politicians deny that Global Warming exists.  While the US continues to be the number one contributer!

Great poem.

Sissie

Who to blame?  Certainly not you in death of squirrel...unless you want to consider that she had become used to knowing THAT water and didn't know how to find other...I don't know.  Sometimes I wonder of the things we give to wild critters.  To go about our daily life without thought, is so easy..you're right...and to take forgranted this precious earth of ours, not right.

Thank you for this!
