The Children Weep

In these times,
It seems that only death is victorious,
For he knows neither color, religion, or beliefs,
Staining silver skies red with the truth
Impaling the moon’s essence, softer than a lover
With a sharpened scythe
That kills quickly in the night…

It is best the children weep in their sleep
Because youth does not discriminate the past,
Even though it seems the past incriminates the future,
Where between the pillars of somber dreams,
Stand Angels with bows, taught with vengeance
Remembering the promises of the Son,
That child should suffer the least,
Even after being cheated of life
By the explosive colors of the night sky
Bombarding the pain of nations
Onto innocence or those religious fanatics,
Who passionately praise their higher being…

The world’s heart is an open wound
Gnawing on the bones of the less fortunate
Sustaining itself only enough to breed the hate of difference,
In order to stem the growth of cells;
But in the end it all returns to politics,
Factions that decrease the worth of others
As they snicker and gather in small corners
Afraid to step out into the light
Exposing themselves to the tears of others…

I have listened to the wind of voices
Hearing the stories of those who mumble
To minds that fumble in the darkness
Attempting to grasp names, places, and memories;
I am overwhelmed and wracked with emotions,
Screaming of love, hate, sadness and happiness
Pondering who amongst us has ever been innocent…

Do we serve a selfish cause?
Or do we blink at the self-righteousness of another’s cause?
(Interlude)
A pause to comfort a sweet child who wept…
I heard him cry out as the bomb exploded
This little boy of about five or six
All he knew before was love and family
Now he must understand religion and war
Because now he weeps for a chance that once was---
A life and future his parents once promised
Turned to ashes and sleepless nights…

These are the tears that haunt my days and nights,
And I want to end the pain and tribulations of innocence
Offering the gift of salvation that was written so long ago…
I want to lift a mirror to face the nonsense of itself
To reflect beams of truth to every crack in the earth
And let those who have hidden from their nightmares,
Be uncovered to answer for their crimes against humanity…
Let the sobs of the children, finally be silenced.

Marcel

It is a heavy world we live in...
long live the children!

Again, you share the depth of your heart with this piece, marcel. I hear the children weeping in my sleep. And when they speak to me in dreams, they ask for all the noise, pain and killing to stop, so they may play as children were meant to play.
You've touched the core of me with this one.
You are such a warm compassionate soul.
Thank you for sharing.

thinking of
Lebanese children
and of Israelis
who have hidden in bunkers
more than once
thinking of Somalia
Afghanistan
China
America
Mexico
name a country on Earth,
and I'll tell you
what I know about how
the children suffer
endlessly
from our stupidity
our insatiable appetite
for power and violence

when will we ever learn?
