"Life was good
and love was us
screaming
swallowing the lust
of all the twinlings
bleeding dust
rolling like
a doughnut
trust
down the darkling
of a bus--
wrapped in papers perfectly"

Life was good.
That was us.
and paper managed
us
amongst
the monks that sang

gregorius

laying crepes of "ohm".

Three things happened in the last 24 hours that brought to me thoughts of you.  I read an article about a man visiting your area, and how, through food and the sharing of same, people of New Orleans were "coming back" in the sense of starting in again.  The story noted that "all of the chains" [i.e, fast food and clique-ish coffee houses] didn't "come back" or haven't...but all or most of the local food havens...are still operating, some on a string, yes, but they are still feeding the soul.

Then, within the last 24 hours, I was involved in a conversation where knowing people spoke of, to, and for New Orleans, and the fact that "it will return".

Finally, it was shared with me that "the true South" always has, and always will share something that no other area in the country seems to have...and that is one of a courtesy in forgiving what others don't know, or cannot comprehend.

It is then that the unsayable of the South comes into play - at least, in my mind.  And the zen and art of doughnut cutting come to be a musically mystical act...it's done, because it always has been done, and the doing of it is what feeds the soul.

Write on, m'friend.
Know that you are never far from my thoughts.

I have to credit Owl, here, since she brought the subject of monks up, whereupon I confessed that from time to time I enjoy listening to Gregorian Chants. (And why does that little piccadillo of mine freak out even the Catholics? I am sooooooooo weird. - )

Also inspired by an unlikely ad I saw in the help wanted section recently. Apparently New Orleans is in desperate need of experienced doughnut cutters. And the pay is outstanding too, if you have the experience.

shaking my head

These are strange days.

And yes, Kari, all of what you say is true.

Because of course, we were raised on Green Fried Tomatoes. It puts a whole different spin of philosophy into your life.

Smiling at the monks at evensong again.  I wonder how many years it takes to do a degree in doughnut-cutting.  However, I'm not going to give up my day job yet.

I have Gregorian chants in my music files.  They help me when my muse won't...

see!?

AND, I will have you know, little one, that I love fried green tomatoes [another lifetime, must have been in the south!] as well as having the ability to fix a mean dish of pork brains.  Yep...from start to finish.

I've learned a lot through both of my husbands...mothers!

and in listening to the elders.

I still owe you that date.

It's amazing how we miss some things....like donuts....huh?

Why, even when we lived in Indonesia, we could get Dunkin' Donuts in Jakarta...'course that was a treat.

But me thinks this be not about donuts so much as it is about those days on the bus?   ....jo

doughnuts...sheesh

that one little thing brings to mind so many different things.

And I appreciate you all taking the time to read.
