Bill's Magic

Way, way up on the tallest mountain so high,
Where the snowy tip tops reach to touch the sky
There was a little sad home on the top of a hill
And a little old man, who called himself Bill.
Bill was lonely and had no animals to hug.
He wished for a kitty or puppy to hold close, nice and snug
Where would he find one?There was no pet store
And poor lonely Bill was really quite poor.
Each and every day when the sky turned from deep black
Bill walked out of doors carrying a large deep blue sack
Nobody saw him, nobody could know
That he wandered and looked for a kitty under the snow.
He dreamed he would find one to hold and to love;
He dug under the cold snow flakes with one hand in a glove.
The other was bare and often got icy cold like ice cream.
He used to have a mitten, but it was no longer seen;
Bill could have planted it in the garden last June
He thought it would grow into a mitten tree under the moon.
So Bill kept on looking, his one hand so very cold.
He snooped and he sniffed looking for a kitty to hold.
The days kept on passing and at night he was sad;
He wanted a kitten to snuggle so very, very bad
Or a puppy to play with, to hold and to walk.
One to sit beside him and listen to Bill as he talked,
Bill kept on looking, he couldn't have told you why.
He knew that there is magic sometimes right under our eyes
He looked and He wandered, He wandered and looked
The snow fell around him, and from the cold he shook.
At night he would wander home all lonely and sad.
He wanted a kitty to love and he felt so darn bad.
One night he was tired and was so all alone,
He could barely move forward to his sad little home.
As he drew closer, he smelled some thing sweet;
His nose it did tickle at the scent of a treat.
He knew he was dreaming because he lived all alone.
The lights in his house were shining, but no one was home.
Bill approached very slowly as things didn't look right
There was a wreath on the door with a red ribbon so bright
Lights shone all around in red, blue and green
He shook his head in amazement and knew it was a dream
He prayed he would not wake up as he opened the door
And stared in surprise at the new mittens laid out on the floor
Bill tippy toed in and stopped to look around at the room
He smelled sugar cookies, ham and coconut macaroons
The house was filled with music and presents under a tree
Poor Bill was speechless at all he did see
He laid down his sack and went to warm at the fire
He rubbed his cold hands as his eyes slowly looked higher
Sitting so quiet on a beam way up high
Was a tiny little kitty who gave him the eye
Bill was astounded and couldn't move to reach it
The kitty came to him and on his shoulder it did sit
It purred and it snuggled, it kissed him and rubbed
Bill reached up to hold it and carefully gave it a hug
Suddenly he heard a sharp little woof and a yelp
He turned around and jumped and loudly yelled ... HELP!
Bill fell to his knees and held his kitty with care
As a puppy ran to him ~ it was black like a bear.
Bill snuggled his family and named them some names
Kitty Jumper and Black Bear made his days never the same
He was never again lonely.He always had friends.
And the magic that came that day never came to an end
He had cookies and chocolate and music and toys
He had so much he looked for little girls and little boys
Bill wandered down his mountain with Black Bear close behind
And he shared treats with all the children he could find
Bill was once lonely and so sad and so poor
But he learned if he shared love he would always have more.
The magic moved on to help another sad home
And Bill shared all that he had and was never alone.

Thank you for reading and enjoying this story about Bill.  Your words have warmed my heart as his was warmed by the 'magic' that visited him.

Rick, your words just made my day.  As I read your poetry, I feel like I am finding a friend.  It's a very special feeling to get from the wriring of another.

Thank you, Lady and EA, I am loving it so much here because of people like you both.
