dancing 'neath the moon

0 posted 2006-07-16 11:19 PM

The lines of the ceiling
hold the answers, I know,
else why would I lie here
and stare at them so

the man in the moon peeks in,
bathing me gently in his light
the whispered words float down to me
"my sister, how are you tonight?"

a soft smile i turn to the window
and gaze at my long time friend
'i am well tonight, my brother,
'tis good to see you at days' end'

"have you found yet the answers
you so diligently search for
in the cracked plaster ceiling?
.. it's a roof, darlin', no more."

with another glance at the ceiling
as if moonlight will show it
'i've searched and i've searched
they're there, i just know it.'

"the answers you seek
are found deep in the heart
maybe not yours,
but it's a good place to start"

'i looked there already,
and you know what answer i found?'
my companion looks hopeful
awaiting something profound

i take a deep breath
and say most stubbornly,
'don't waste love on a man
who has no love for me'

he whispers so gently as he fades into day
"the gift of love is never wasted,
it returns without fail"
and knowing he's right, i slowly exhale
