LASER SURGERY
12 November 2000

No, I will not have my feelings removed
for my pain is me
and life is misery
and joy is but a momentary reprieve.

I will not have my feelings removed
though my tears block my nose
and my head thunders
and my limbs are withered;
though I put my fingers in my ears
when friends recount stories I will not hear;
though I turn off the television
when I cannot face reality;
though I often wonder
if I could do my bit
for disaster victims;
though I know I stand alone;
though I repeatedly try to do
what is right
though it is unnoticed,
unappreciated,
or misinterpreted;
though I do not understand
the selfishness, thoughtlessness and cruelty
of the human race.

No, I will not have my feelings removed
for my pain is me
and life is misery
and joy is but a momentary reprieve.

I will not have my feelings removed
for I will not give up my moments
and I will make
and live
and remember
and wallow
in my moments
of birdsong
and Chopin sonatas
and Wordsworth and Longfellow
and leaf-fringed sunsets
and the bonding gaze of my horse and cat
and I will wash my feelings in my glorious moments.
No, I will not have my feelings removed.

This is really good.  I am glad that  you won't have your feelings removed -- I am growing to be quite fond of you the way you are.  You know, I'll be back to read this poem again.  That I know.

Oh Diana, you never stand alone when you stand for the right and you certainly do. I will stand with you, my friend. Please do not give up your feelings for you would not be Diana. Oh and the poem? I love it.

Thank you aziza.  I am honoured by what you say.  Your poem about not/being in denial reminded me of this and that was why I posted it.

Thank you Sheli.  I must make sure you don't give me a swollen head!

Kate, I am not in the least surprised that you have been friends 19 and 23 and 39 years with 3 of your friends, not surprised in the least.  You are the best kind of friend anyone can have.  Thank you for being mine too and thank you for the lovely things you say and think about me and my poetry.

the composite of YOU
is dynamic
filled with a passion for life

and you may find down the road
the pain was always
tempered
by an abundance
of joy and happiness,
yet the painful moments
sometimes stand out
like the thorn in your finger
makes you notice that point on your body,
to the momentary exclusion of
the total

Diana, I thought of you
the past few days
as I gazed at the
Lipizzaners.
I hugged a handsome stallion
'Shama' just for you,
and kissed the forehead
of a magnificent mare, 'Ambrosia'
in the morning dew.

No laser surgery
can cut you off
from the love of Life.

Oh, Kacy, you are so kind to see me that way.  You are SO right and so wise about the pain having been tempered by more joy and happiness, and the pain standing out more.  You described it so perfectly.

Kacy, the tears are streaming down my face with gratitude at the fact that you hugged Shama and kissed Ambrosia for me.  I can just picture you all in the morning dew and you are all very, very beautiful, inside and outside.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I will carry that image around with me for the rest of today, and no matter what happens, you will all be there - and I will recall this image many, many times in the future.  What a perfect gift you have given me! And yes, I believe you are right, no laser surgery will cut me off from the love of Life.

*sigh*...I wish we could. I've always been of the thought that if women were in charge of things, the world would be a whole 'nother place. One can always hope...

Great poem. Very nice read.

Thank you Tina.  Yes it could be different if women were in charge (but aren't they already, albeit indirectly?), but on the other hand, there are many, many women who are selfish, thoughtless and cruel.

To read you, is to love you. The more I read you, the more I come to know ~ and love ~ you.

Hugs with much love,

Diana...hi my friend.....

"and I will wash my feelings in my glorious moments.
No, I will not have my feelings removed."

You know what?  This is how I have been feeling and have felt...and it is right and good...no matter what anybody says!!

Thank you Martie!  You make me smile warmly (but then you always do!).  I'm glad you understand - and I'm glad we both feel the same way - no matter what!  And you are right, it is good!
