Broken Treaties

Andrew Jackson
Took peaceful Indians
forced them to move to Oklahoma

Cherokee Indians
Wise Council agreed to the Act of 1830
Signed by those who suffered along the Trail Of Tears
Song: Cherokee Rose
Meaning white blossom is the mothers tears.
Petals represent 7 tribes that were made to leave
It started in October of 1838
contiued onuntil March 26 1939
4000 or more of them died.
Nunna Dual Tsuny
The trail on which they cried
Great Spirit who was their God
Instilled in them Cherokee Pride
Forefathers told of the legends
Kept by the Myth Keepers of time
Told sacred stories throughthe healing of medicines and songs
Of small animals why they look and act as they do?
Myth keepers must prepare to hear myths
Medicine man scratches himself with a rattlesnake comb
From shoulder to elbow to wrist.
Blows healing red powder over scratches
Hears Myths in a dome shape covered hut
Stories last all night until sun-up
Myth Tellers go to water and dip themselves 7 times
Priest recites Prayers
It is said that Myth Tellers become animals about whom they speak

One Myth is that in the beginning man talked to the animals
but he talked too much and became greedy so the animals quit talking to him
because man was eating the animals. So the animals invented diseases
the plants felt sorry for man and invented medicines to heal man because the
plants knew it would all go back to the universe
