at least we know now
what the other would do
with the evidence
of our crime

we have heard the voices
and the words
when it was too hot out
to leave it out

but we did anyway
and pulled the music
from the altar boys
over and over again

til their voice changed
to the mellow resolution
of our insatiable addictions
pressed to fingertips

of the speed dial’s salvation
