I harbor a madness
that I can't explain
a need to search darkness
to walk in the rain
for where there is dark
there will soon be light
and where there is rain
there's a rainbow in sight

I harbor a madness
that keeps driving me on
to find myself within myself
before this life is gone
and though I see no light
no rainbow in the sky
I may be lost forever
but still, I'll always try

and if the madness is still in me
on the day that I die,
I will remain here with other ghosts
who have never said goodbye.

Isn't the greater majority of the world searching themselves to some extent.

Nice philosophical air about this poem. I like how it flowed with ease.

It is simple enough to believe
that perhaps more of us should
recognize our own madnesses...
and be as honest as this poem.

Well done, little one!

Madness is highly underrated. :-)

A poem's just a poet in a word.

Wow, Dixie.  This is an impressive poem.  Madness, indeed!  I know exactly of which you speak.

I once tried sanity for half an hour - and it drove me insane!  I love your poem, Dixie.  It is so healthy to know yourself well, and to know and understand your thoughts, as you do.  That, I am sure, is one of the many reasons why you have survived and achieved so much and stayed such a great person - and, knowing you, grown as a result of the pain instead of letting things get you down for too long.

In todays world those that say that aren't mad, crazy, or purely insane ... are normally faking it anyway. You have to be a bit crazy to embrace the world these days, especially to embrace the amount of feelings and emotions that will constantly be a part of the human mind and psyche. The key is to never give up searching for the answers, because in the search for answers you will always find a better question to ask. Those that do not question anything (especially themsevles) are really just empty shells drifting from day to day waiting for someone to tell them the next move to make.

I was going to say . . .
but Serena just did it.

Stay "mad", Dixie!
It will keep you sane.

Dear Dixie, what a wonderful title, I loved it and the poem attached, well done my friend.
I am glad to habour a madness, it seems all that keeps me going though this life we have. The many voices of madness always speak, we chat, I write and that was just today. Good to see you here dear, be well and take care.

Sincerely
Rick
