The Ghosts of Arlington
07/01/06

Amidst the sea of white limestone
an endless field of heroes lye
all in waves of pride and honor
they lost their lives for freedom's flag

And without such thoughts of selfishness
they ran under fire to save a life
not caring whether they lived or died
just whether or not they'd done their job

And jobs to them were more than jobs
for they fought for life and liberty to the death
not giving into the ideals of their foes
even when captured as a prisoner of war

With blood on their chests and mudd on their knees
no matter the times the soldier never changed
always ready to crawl through the trenches of dispair
willing to defend the country they called home

And with this demeaner through the trials of war
they picked up their guns and saluted the flag
just as it flew in the midst of the bullets
whizzing right by the red, white, and blue

And in one last moment they fell to the ground
their dog tags hung limp clasped around their necks
but as they were placed six feet in the ground
they still were determined and as strong as steel

And as the years pass by their spirits remain
lending their strength to the next batch of troops
they roam the fields of the heart of the nation
for the ghosts of Arlington are here to stay

chilling
I'd prefer no more ghosts be roaming
but you honor those who walk the long night

Who really does want anymore casulties of war anyway. And not to judge our government, but if our President-the evil bugger he is-would handle (foreign) affairs better there would be less residence in the newer district of our nations' cemeteries...
But enough about our...lovely...commander in chief, Thanks for the reply Midnitesun.

I like this line:
"just as it flew in the midst of the bullets
whizzing right by the red, white, and blue"

I recently was able to visit Arlington.  It was a very moving experience that I will never forget.  I think every American should have to visit there, so they will feel the right amount of respect and gratitude toward our soldiers.
