Some tell me they love growing old –
Say what?
What about bad hips, teeth falling out,
bones breaking, hair loss;
sight failure, hearing loss;
is that great?

Some tell me they must get old and die
to leave this planet and go to
“The Other Side.”

Ok... the other side:
and what would that be,
if I may be so bold as to ask?
Heaven? Hell? Nirvana? Duhhhhh?

Lot’s of people make the claim
they’re on their way to “The Other Side”
even more claim there is no “Other Side”
and what if I don’t want to go to any “Other Side”?
(too much like slip-sliding away)
and just want to go on, thank you very much?

The question before us today is:
must pain, suffering and death
be the only path to “enlightenment”?
Is death such a certain thing?
Or is there a way around it? Or through it?

Do I have the answer?
Bet your bottom dollar I don’t
but I’m not accepting
what’s been offered to date either!
I’m looking here... I’m looking!

"I’m looking here... I’m looking!"

Sounds like you are on the right trail.

I liked this.

I enjoy...outside...my garden, the forest, the shore...of anything.

I would say...far too often, we are trapped in questions that are irrevelent.
Nothing is as it seems to be, how I feel is most important to me.
I care for the pains that come, as they come...the mind, the body, and the spirit.
I don't mind silver, if it should grace my hair...as long as my eyes still shine...and yours.

Death?  Not even...another birth, takes us season after season.

Some science fiction movie have shown us other possible ways of "moving on", instead of a long and painful "deterioration", it would be a nice thing to step into a "cloud" where we simply separate the soul from our body, in order to continue our existence "up there", or to begin a new adventure by reincarnating ...

The soul does not obey the law of aging, it is eternal ... I do believe this and it does help to avoid worrying about death.

Your well written poem allows your readers to ponder. Thank you!

Love,
Margherita
