Between the Lines

The sweat drips
off the words
the lengths one goes
to disappoint
as I tie down my broken wings
wondering how long the heal will take

pages bleed to me
with half-a-heart-thoughts
trying to find my place
in the humidity of life

another thought to another thought
attaching themselves
smearing the glow from an almost yesterday

past the point of it,
the losing that is,
where the coming down from the high
leaves silent pain
and the birth of what might have been
once again drains the fade
into a nothingness to become the norm

under the eaves of my mind
the attack of sorrow takes place
clinging like those bats
in backward exposure

body weighted by care
death always imminent
secrets on a blank page
waiting to taste it
through the pen of another

He pecks at the window
waking me from the restlessness
that invades now
bugging me by those he catches
while I wonder the next
and play devil's advocate

sinking too deep in the damp
I let the sweat drip off my words
tired of playing the same old tunes
holding onto an emptiness
unfinished...

"under the eaves of my mind

WOW!  Vivid.  Love this line.
