The Color Of Wind...(but then again...)

I imagine I'd run in circles
if left to my own devices,
making the same kinds of stew
but using different spices,
decorating life with what I have
unconcerned with the who, where, and when,
trying to fix the cracks in everything
not realizing that's how light gets in.
I'd ride in my mind at day's start,
I'd sit in my heart at day's end,
meditate in my soul in between the two,
pondering stuff like the color of wind...

But I'm not left out on my own,
my circumference is always jolted loose
as the whos, wheres, and whens come in
and add themselves to my refuse,
changing my direction, they send me
off in horizontal and vertical lines,
and then they proceed to bend me
like frantic, sporadic, entwining vines...
and I end up decorating some other life
with things that are unwanted, thrown in,
and to die without monument or knowing
where I was going or the color of wind...

but then again, if and when
it's all supposed to function with no joint,
would it ruin everything pointless then
to cater the idea of a point?

You had me by the throat with the title and never let go. How precious is a truly original thought, and how rare. I doff my chapeau to a genuine poet.

Oh yes--it's lavender--today.

A poem's just a poet in a word.

Ain't that the truth!
Excellent write.

From the first moment I read the title, I felt it was the very best of your poems that I have read, then when I got to reading the responses, I see that both Helen, Lee, Donna and Nancy feel exactly or almost exactly the same thing.  I agree with all of the other responses too, especially that of Nedj's - and Nancy, about you and your daughter.  Please write more like this one.  The style suits your so well.  And that bit about the colour of the wind . . . ooh, that floated me on a cloud.

thank you all for such wonderful responses on this one, which I didn't think would get any when I posted it...

I am glad that each of you enjoyed this, though it's an old one of mine from when I still had a little college left in my bones and I probably couldn't write like that again to save my life

you leave me with a smile in a dark night here

Dixie, you write your thoughts with such poetic articulation. This is just beautifully done and I read it three times!  My thoughts are wind-blown, scattered like leaves most of the time, some still swirling mid air, challenging me to nail just one idea lucidly....

Wonderful and introspective.  ~ Klassy

Dixie, I am sure you could write like that again.  In fact, I know you could.  You can and have done and have overcome many things that many of us could not have, had we been in your position.  You know that is true.  So, it is equally true that you could write like that again.  If you don't, it doesn't matter, because we all enjoy your work anyway, but I just needed to say . . .

Love and hugs.
