in the shadows

Living in darkness
I am relaxed,
at home in a world textured with shadows,
no need to turn the lights on
to read the weathered winds of time
and chance,
no need
to chase the spotlight dancer
for a private dance,
it is not happenstance but comfort
that has me stand from time to time
in shadows deep
while keeping very still,
watching city life
swirl by
in wave sets of collective
self preoccupied whorls,
unaware
I am watching,
I am watching.

serenity enters, and places her basket of blackberries gently at his feet and slowly backs away...

"Hi, my name is serenity, and I'll be your waitress tonight.

One of the watchers, eh?"

She smiles.

"The city is full of 'em now, what with the convention and everything. Anderson Cooper has really done a bang up job, doncha think?"

serenity places a bag of chex mix before Charly.

"As you are already aware, there is a three drink minimum (they make me say that) but we offer a special tonight on call brands--half off.
