Between the Lines

Thoughts are skimming along the outer edge
of this thickness of air that
tries its best to suffocate my words,
those feelings necessary
to summarize my days.
I rely on the coolness to "satisfy my senses"
and bring me to each remembrance of you.

Last night I circled the moon,
rode the clouds, waded in dreams
that had been put aside
by the randomness of passion,
flirting with the changes
as the dance slows and surrenders to this heat
and the distance between memories.

It is an escape of time,
a desertion of the now,
when the whispers come from the shadows
and join me in that nighttime stroll
allowing the evening myst
to reign upon the Sleepless
in Pennsylvania.
