she watches me,
from the corners of her eyes

anticipating

she winds herself up,
expecting a need
to tell more lies

for the truth is not real,
at best,
barely believable

I tell her it's OK
say what you must say,
not every path you walk
must be a closed street

she relaxes and lets go
of years of pent up fears

she allows herself
a moment of dignity
and self-respect

and suddenly
a smile appears
and you know she will
find a way
to move forward

This seems very intense to me.

Perhaps, it is a poem about helping someone, even though you know their faults???

I dunno, just guessing, anyway, a great write....made me think...very well done!

thanks for reading, Will
and you are close...
though it isn't about fault(s)
but rather, the suffering
from years of abuse
and coverups
and the need to release

Sometimes listening is enough to help release tension ...

Beautiful and REAL.

Good write, Kacy!

"she allows herself
a moment of dignity
and self-respect"

Yes, I think we should all do that more often because it's easy to forget in the rush of modern living.

Very well said Kacy...so right on point and
so in tune with the feelings of a person who
has endured so much.

She is very lucky she had you.  Just wondering to myself how many people you have made smile!  I know it will be a great many more than you know of.  Lovely poem exquisitely and delicately fashioned.  Much enjoyed.  Thank you.
