early morning
Latin Quarter
fragrant cafés
small dusty book stores
I passed them all
looking for a place
to nurse my pain

a park
in the Paris fall
leaves speak yellow
jaune

dark haired beauty
with sweet wrists
and hands that stood me on the brink of time
offered pastis
a game of boules
we sipped
I beat him

I asked why more women
don’t play boules
women are but a problem
he moaned
alexandrite eyes lying

as silken dark
climbed the chimney pots of Paris
I became his problem

Wow!  Some problems really do carry gifts!  The intrigue and romance is palpable.  Enchanting little story with many avenues open to a conclusion.     You captured the game exquisitely!

Nice story bringing back memories of being a tom boy and playing chess and king of the hill with the boys.  Much enjoyed this write.

Lady, I couldn't begin to tell you how much pleasure this poem brought me. :-) I have had similar problems but could never portray them with such exquisite elegance! :-)

Thank you for your kind reply Klassy.

Haven’t thought of King of the Hill in a long time Kimberly. Thanks for the memories you bring.

You sang the soul of Paris and Paris sang sweetly for you in gratitude.
