I stand before the altar of time, in
wait the moment of one’s demise.
Anticipating the breath that shall
raggedly become a last word, an
epitaph.

Resting patiently for a moment
when the pen shall swirl and twist,
rise and repeatedly fall into the
darkened well of ink, as a muse
whispers into a starved ear,
hungering for just the right sound,
the right feel within a burdened
chest that rises, swells and then
falls, and...at times....pauses for
what seems a galaxy of time.

Where might the lingering thoughts flourish
and dance?  Where might the hallowed page
become more than just smooth pure lifeless
paper?

For the time is nigh and a rustic clock awaits
the silent closing of heavy lids as I tumble into
a meadow of dreams.....wishing to again
touch another weary soul as their breath
twins and echoes my own until coveted words
are born and quietly locked away, awaiting
the soft click of a lock...and the fall of
a single shimmering tear.
