A lost child hiding
In shadows not of her making,
In silent stillness
Her whimpers are breaking.
The lamplight glows,
She sleeps in the cold loneliness,
It’s pain she knows,
A mother taken before bonding.
Was she too lost,
Was she too uncaring,
Was she unable of responding,
Unable for caring;
Was the mother penniless,
Was she unwed,
Was she lost and homeless,
Or was she dead.
The baby never knew,
Never learned as she grew,
Lost a part of herself too.
Alone
She learned to face a world
Ever new.

Gloom

You captured the pain of an orphan very well, Professor Gloom.

Yup, I liked the writing. Liked the topic and its handling. Nicely done Prof.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

How awful for a child to be alone.  You did this well.

I always question what I see...for there are always reasons even if they aren't acceptable ones.

Nicely done and nice to read you again
