For the hearts of many parents
whose beloved children stray
who pine and faint with anxious thoughts,
Comfort Comfort” Lord I pray.
Grant the deepest longing
of their rent and restless soul.
Let tears from Heaven trickle down
that posterity be whole.
Regardless of whether son or daughter
freely veered away from truth
loving superficially
the verdant passions borne of youth,
or only strayed because their fathers
stumbled little feet,
lay these melancholy sighs
before your mercy seat.
And see both prodigals brought home
the guileless Father that you are.
Stand in stead of falling sires
as a never dimming star
from whom no son can traipse too far.

Beautiful prayer.....so many wander, lost in the winding path of pain. This touched me deeply.

I was once young and now I'm a parent of four so....(Sigh) I've been both there and there praying and am there praying still. Very well written verse that has a very nice flow. I'm so glad that I got to read your poetry again. God bless you.

sky & LHB,

Thanks,

I tried to make the title ambiguous enough that you couldn't tell who the prodigal really is ... the parent or the child.  Hence the "once removed" and the line about "both prodigals".   There is that responsibility that settles in, and makes one wonder.  I sympathize with parents in that place.  Of course where the fault lies does not matter as much as this plea for mercy and intervention, and the final outcome of coming home to stay.
