There's No Such Thing As A Broken Heart

Having experienced a few broken hearts myself
I couldn't believe these words I was reading,
"There's no such thing as a broken heart."
The source seemed to be competent, for
I wouldn't wish to believe a fool.
But his words of wisdom seemed to be making
perfect sense, he seemed wise and cool.
Herein lies the secret, although I'm sure
that many already know; there is a way to
prevent a broken heart, and it is through
acceptance and a willingness to let go.

BROKEN HEARTS ARE REALLY a form of tantrum.
We feel brokenhearted because our loved ones
have not acted in the way we wished them to.
We take our hearts out and threaten to break
them because they do not listen to us.
We smash our hearts into a thousand pieces,
thinking, "They'll be sorry now."
We are the only ones who can break our hearts.
Nobody can make us feel anything that we do not
choose to feel or that we are not already feeling
at some level.  If we were willing to let the
situation be different from what we think it
should be, by acceptance, then we could take
the great amount of emotion that comes and give
through it.  We could enter a new birth in our
life.  We could step into a whole new level of
love with a sense of confidence and empowerment.
From the book "If It Hurts It Isn't Love" written
by Chuck Spezzano, Ph.D./1998/page 151.

Well, anyone who writes or reads poetry or prose of the heart knows the heart both breaks and mends. I think all he was saying is that when our perceptions and emotions allow us to self-inflict a sense of total complete despair and pain, we 'break' our own hearts.
A ponderful write, James.

I hate to admit it, but there is some truth to this, although at the root of it, a broken heart is a broken heart. Knowing that you are the one who let it break doesnt make the hurting any less real. Thanks for the new point of view, I'll keep it in mind
