            The Prime of Shadow

Forty degrees into morning, Shadow waits her fame
in pastel, ink or oil, elite her darkened flame.
She crosses the drive, scoring grass floors,
Awakening color by contrast.

She reigns o'er minutes 'til extinguished
Before dust is at its peak;
Hurry must the artist with tools
The shadow begins to speak

Hurry!  Marry the time to canvas!
Degree by degree it's foreshadowed that
Soon, she will decree her vanish.
Wait not.  Marry Time to canvas

As I've been slowly reading up on landscapes, I've been experimenting with light.  The last book I read said that the best time to capture the dramatic shadow is in the morning (after the dust has settled over the night).  Prime time, when the sun is at about 40 degrees.  Probably most of you knew, but I didn't, and thought I'd pass it along to others who may be interested.

ooh, that first line is killer!"...shadow waits her flame" And no, I didnt know, so thanks for that too. My favorite part; "She reigns over minutes 'til extinguished" Great stuff~!

Also, my favorite time to write...there must be a connection.  Your poem is like light, forty degrees into morning!

iliana,

Gee thanks, but an artist I'm not.  Not yet anyway!  That's why I'm writing about it instead of actually doing it! Thanks for your sweet thought, Jo.  I appreciate the support you give.

JL,

Glad you enjoyed the info.  I always find those little tidbits exciting and thought you might, too.  My appreciation to you for taking time to read and respond.  Have a good one!

Marge,

As an artist, I knew you'd understand and appreciate this one.  Glad you did!  Art seems to run through your fingertips to the keyboard and out of the screen.  I always enjoy the artwork you include with your poetry.

Nightshade,

I'm proud you shelved it in your library, Chris.  I made some corrections and reworded it since your response.  (You may or may not like it better, so if you do, it's yours for the taking.)  Thank you so much for reading.  Your poetry and your sister's have always ranked high on my favorite list.

Jess,
Love your enthusiasm and those poems of yours!   Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Martie,

Hm... a correlation to writing and the angle of the sun...may be...  Then again,I guess I write best about 3:00 a.m. after an inspiring dream (but that doesn't happen too much.  Now, I wonder if the moon was full!)  Interesting response, Martie!  We know/think the moon has an affect upon people/animals.  Why not the angle of the sun?

Sure enjoyed your response.
