It was mid-April
As I perspired
Sitting down by the fire
In the evening as I looked out
With great desire,
Out my window because I could not leave.
I had killed it is true
Killed while still was there dew
Upon the morning ground.
To my home I am now bound.
Covered with leaves there she lay
Until within days came they, looking-
Looking for whom they
Could not find.
And now, as I sit in this chair
Breathing poisonous air
I watch the people gathering in throngs
And realize what I’ve done is wrong.
