Hundreds.
drones, flocking through the steel jungle
to a concrete horizon;
lifeless in a lifetime of empathy
one by one and four by four
lined up along the river of asphault
giving way to a parade of death.
hollow in the eyes of the great mother
is displayed the face of grief;
an empty projection of fears and regret.

our silence is unspoken, protesting in quiet agony.

miles of metal beast procede
licking the floor of the creator,
observed respectfully by our critical gaze--
we do not go unnoticed.

projected through their own nobility
the beasts spare us, if not just this once.
there is a greater cause for which their attention need be promoted:
the same spectacle which we observe.
an empty token of affection, the son is trailed by his entourage.
kept in the company and bossom of mother,
the beasts ride on
morosely comfortable in the pressence and sanctity of us sheep.

the last of the party departs
and the flock returns to its place;
back through the jungle, to a glowing warmth of home.

the silence booms for hours.
