on the day I let you go
I knew I would suffer
but I was young then
planning to live forever
and you
you were a wind creature
I knew would someday
blow back into my life

I suffered sweetly for you
sleeping with memories of days spent
in the grass wiping blackberry juice
from our mouths

on the early morning beach
sipping hot black coffee
walking on water

the time we went to Boulder
to see Jerry Jeff Walker
you
me
and the bike
cutting in the mountains
leaning gloriously into
the curves

the way you asked
“Hey Lady!
Anybody punch your ticket lately?”
damn
you were romantic

today
on the road to Boulder
I thought of you
and Jerry Jeff Walker

I cried your name aloud
I know now
I won’t live forever
and I will have to lean into turns
alone

Lady, I remember riding my boyfriend's snortin' Norton and being instructed very sterning by him to lean just so....about the time I got the hang of it, I thought I'd outgrown him.  These days, those days (70s) float in my dreams quite unexpectedly.  Your poem finds a place with me.  *hugs*...jo

Lady Kate, you just punched my ticket!!! I also am remembering days gone by. This has all the feel of Janis Joplin's "Bobby Mcgee". I'm leaning with you in spirit! Love it!:-)

Oh, I have sung those blues once or twice myself ~ but I sure have wonderful memories of leaning into those curves!

My wasband had a Gold Wing Interstate that had everything on it except a kitchen sink!
Harley Couple
~ and we lived on that bike. (I loved the smell of his leather jacket when I leaned into his curves (manly ones! lol)!

Lady, I love your stories ~ and how you write them! They always stir up memories of my own!

Thank you for your comment passing shadows.

Ahhh jo. There is no feeling like leaning into the curves, is there? Well, maybe one other.
Thank you.

Hang on Steve and keep leaning. This ride’s far from over.
Linda, there’s nothing quite as sexy as the smell of your man’s leather jacket. Glad I stirred up some leather memories for you.

Thank you for your reply Susan. I’m glad you enjoyed.

I love this, Lady!! I loved reading of your
memories. You have some very good ones, so
hold them close to your heart.

you
me
and the bike
cutting in the mountains
leaning gloriously into
the curves

And, I've experienced this a few times and loved it!!
Well, not in the mountains, but on the road to the beach or
down hilly streets in town. Loved it too.

Man, that was a long time ago!! But, some good memories!!
Hugs,
Ethel

I love this.  The last stanza really caught my breath, but the lines that catch my soul are:

"and you
you were a wind creature"

Thank you so much Snowflake.

Oh Diana. Those are the lines that catch my soul too. You’d think I would KNOW better than to let go of a wind creature, but I always thought I could catch him.

Thank you for the read and reply Jess.

It seemed easy at the time Uriah, but now…. silver-tongued devils are few and far between.
I am singing Redneck Mother. :-)

I love the whole poem and the energy that I perceive throughout the thread. Many of us can relate ... you just brought back my own memories involving Swiss mountain curves and a very special young man ... wondering if he remembers too sometimes?

Great job really!

Love,
Margherita

The Lady,

I love these road trips you take us on!  You really know how to reach every sense while evoking memories of our own.  Love your writing!  If I didn't pack this in my library, I think I'd regret it, so...

A pleasure to read!

whoa, this was intensely perfect...enjoyed the bittersweet music it played for me...
remembering those youthful days...
and the motor cycle hill climb in Freemansburg, PA....

sweet life....

Memories often catch us leaning into the wind and dreams whip the edges of heart...where thoughts rewind the old journeys like movies.

Very romantic and special.

Ahhhh, Klassy. It’s about those dreams. Thank you.
