when did I become so afraid of touch
hand against skin
close contact between sheets
between clothes
between air
when did I lose sight of breath
and my lungs filling to capacity
till I could hold no more
and you exhaled for me
when did I forget how to blink
so rapidly
so as not to miss a moment
not to miss a gesture
so that every frame
is burned into my retina
when did I stop trying to tell time
and the hours between my words
the ever expanding distance
that brings loneliness
rather than freedom
when did my voice disappear
softer and softer
till there were no more sounds
just small gasps
waiting to be moved
waiting to be held

How we foregt just how we came to be in certain instances..time moves so quickly..we become programmed so easily..manipulated willingly....the most important word in this fast paced world is autonomy/autonomous..how many of us are truly autonomous?..No shackles whatsoever?

Enjoyed this..another of your writes..always thought provoking..thank you..

I've read this a plethora of times and it continues to blows me away - I think every one will relate to your powerful words.

This is another keeper

Melissa~

Intellectually I know that Canada is no better than any other country. Emotionally I KNOW that Canada is the best country in the world!

I read it and it was great.  Then I read it aloud and it was even greater.  Line ending as punctuation is a great technique.  It's the kind of poem that makes me want to hear the poet reading it. Thanks for sharing this.
