I was sailing along in a lavender haze
When a gleaming pink pearl caught the suns rays
I looked in the water and there to amaze
Was a lovely young mermaid who captured my gaze

All of a sudden, much to my shock
The boat began shaking, it started to rock
I closed fearful eyes and dreamt of the dock
And drifted away for nearly a block

I awoke to the mermaid stroking my cheek
So enchanted was I, not a word could I speak
I briefly recalled a boat with a leak
And a mischievous mermaid who played hide and seek

She said come with me and I reached for her hand
Together we waded through dollars of sand
Underwater was a kingdom of riches so grand
That quickly dispelled were thoughts of dry land

The mermaid bewitched me with her song of the sea
I was under the spell of this soft melody
There was never a maiden as lovely as she
This siren whose voice had called unto me

She brushed her silk strands with a sleek ivory comb
With pearls on the handle pulled from the foam
The sea had become the land I called home
Each day as fresh as a saltwater poem

Together we lived in a clam furnished hut
Along purple cliffs whose edges did jut
Though our life was a jewel, perfectly cut
Something was wrong, I knew in my gut

I was back on the boat watching the gleam
Of a dazzling pink pearl that winked in the stream
I was filled with a sadness because it did seem
The mermaid who sang was only a dream

So I sailed all my days in search of the key
A siren whose voice had called unto me
Hoping and praying one day it might be
That I would once again hear, the song of the sea

Shades of H.H.! A truly brilliant ballad. There are not many who can make it work as well as you have. To me it seems a metaphor between the riches of the unknown and of fantasy and the arrid reality one faces when waking up.

Jess,

An absolute creation of imagination and rhyme!  Both thumbs up!  Terrific day to begin my day; (but heck, now I'll want to go swimming instead of work!)  You meanie!

It was a delight to read!
