The bookstore shelves
are overflowing
with tales of
man's final fall.

Each one claiming
to be knowing
how to read the
writing on the wall.

Writers give their
publishers a call.
A jot and a tittle
won't hurt at all

The subject is HOT !
Man !
They're on the ball !

But, the blind can read
and still not see at all.

And You...
You mistook freedom for position
and now you're so afraid.

So you seek a little religion,
to cope in the prison that you've made.

How does it feel
to be on Death Row?

Will your last steps
be fast or slow?

Will you be brave
when it comes your time to go?

I think I'll just kick back
and watch the show.

There's a time clock in your head.
Can you feel it winding down?

Can you sleep...
now that you've made your bed?
Or, do you toss from that ticking sound?

The day's distractions
keep you sane.

You buy and sell
and play the game.

You've learned how
to stop the buck
and pass the blame.

Do you think you've earned enough
to feed the flame?

You're in denial
Hoping it's not true.

Is it almost time
to pay your dues?

Almost time
to pay the cost
for promises
with fingers crossed.

All the things you've touched
have died.
Every word you spoke
has been a lie.

Pardon me if I dont want to cry.

Oh,
but, is there something in your eye?

And
Pardon me
If I dont flee,
but you see...
I have no place to hide.

I've been trying
to escape
your tragedy
since I first
opened my eyes.

So,
excuse me
if I stretch
and yawn...
but you see,
I'm bored with
the "end of time"

You wont be happy
until its gone.

It wont be from
the lack of trying.

I'm just glad that
it's your world...

Not mine.

ouch...
while reading I felt like a kid, being scolded...a lot more humble and perhaps a little more aware of the feelings of others...intense write and read

Whoa. This one has pulled me up short.
Cold, Uriah. It's cold.

Sounds like the accumulated compost of a bad conscience, one which knows that whatever it does it's not going to be redeemed. It's just doing time until the end of time because that's the 'normal' thing to do. We live in a world of expediency and it's afterglow is remorse. Life is generally like one of those old black and white Hollywood gangster films with an execution chamber at the end of it so there's no point in over-protesting.

Don't know if this overlaps in any way with your intent but generally thats how it strikes me. It certainly has some memorable lines.
