~ Sunflowers ~

Sincerity
I only wanted honesty
not long stemmed suave
over-priced, mass produced bouquet.
No red roses that wilt too soon
voiceless in fancy ribbons
pristine with coated thorns
of debonair dance with lies.

Only sunflowers
perhaps two or three
or etchings in the sand.
The simple things
old fashioned sweetness -
the one true thing
most take for granted.
I only ever wanted
the connection of eyes
a rain walk, your hand
your jacket over a puddle
and mask removed…
Some trifling imperfection
that I could fall in love with.

Too much is too little
when each hello has the echo of goodbye
and every kiss is a remnant of another’s breath.
I asked for truth, sincerity,
only sunflowers
not exaggerated promises
and expensive emptiness.

Some trifling imperfection
I would have loved.

Ah   How easily "preference" ruins the moment-to-moment.

Another amazing write !

Oh my how true this is to my heart!
Give me a bunch of wild daisies any day..
not a dozen roses..but perhaps just one.
A walk on the beach...enjoying a sunset together..
Yup, life's simple pleasures mean so much more.
Love this Melissa!

You know as old as I am there has only been one man in my life that got this right but sadly he is now gone.  One flower to me says volumes, and dozens of roses scream words I don't wish to even hear.  Great write lady!

They are blooming wild here in the city, in the trash mounds and through the cracked sidewalks!

They symbolize strength and loyalty (the loyalty comes from the fact that the "face" of the sunflower turns to follow the sun)

I have decided that they are my new favorite flower--and I thank you this one--

"some trifling imperfection I would have loved"

nothing trifling about this, lady, and imperfections are merely a matter of perspective.

Excellent verse!

...and sunflowers are among my favorites.  Growing them in my corn garden this year to keep the corn cheerful.
