To Have Loved And Lost

...so...
life went on without you today
and I didn't smile very much
but more than I did yesterday
tomorrow I'll be more in touch
with a happiness without you still
each day the pain will fade
I'll smile even if not my will
and I'll no longer be afraid.

I'll soon find who I used to be
while I was still in love with you
and owned the spirit gifted me
ere you showed your colors true,
when I had the faith of child
and the bliss of ignorance
every day and night I smiled
so full of great suspense.

I'm reaching for the stars I had
and held within my eyes
before my heart grew ironclad
in the middle of our demise;

the pieces of me upward tossed
I'll reconstruct them when they fall
...yes...
better to have loved and lost
than to have never loved at all.

Dixie,

I think you are right, but sometimes question it a teensy weensy bit.  I guess it depends on who or what was loved and lost!  Your writing is wonderful as always!  I really liked the part where one could throw the pieces up in the air!  Enjoyed.

Dixie, I relate to your words more than I could ever express - a powerful lament onto acceptance, especially the last 2 stanzas....And I love the picture.

Dixie - I think we all have to know love at least once in our lives but we can't ever lose it.  We may lose the object of that love but not the love itself and somehow I find that thought rather comforting.  I hope you do to.  Enjoyed your write and picture!

Dixie, this is lovely, hopeful, and strong.  I appreciate the insight into the depths of heart you pen.  I'm blinking back tears, thinking of what we learn about self and growth after the rose colored glassed are abandoned.  It's difficult to see the entire picture of a mosaic in the midst of broken pieces.

You did this so beautifully.  ~ Klassy

A fantastic write, Dixie. But, sometimes, I am not so sure about the "better to loved and lost, than to never have loved at all".

Well...

"...yes...
better to have loved and lost
than to have never loved at all."

I have nothing but deep abiding respect for you, and always I find your poetry to be one of the bright moments of my days, but on this one concept I think we have to agreed to disagree.

Maybe I have just become jaded with age.

How very lovely. *S* Some loves are worth anything and everything... and if we're lucky enough to ever know such a love, we know we're better for the knowing... no matter how horribly it hurts when we're left alone again. *S*

Letting go bites so hard though, which serves to remind us of our loss.

and so it goes~

Great poem, Dixie~

Love is never lost. All that went on before, will always be with you. Love is forever, even after seperation, after death, after being able to physcially share. It is never lost.  You Are Loved

Dear Dixie, reconstruct quickly, because life goes on! Clinging to past situations prevents you from living to the fullest your life NOW.

I believe what also Honeybunch and MartyJo affirm ... love can't be lost, what you have had can't be taken away.

As always powerful verses!

Love and hugs.
