Chaos Topping

There’s chaos topping on my head
A mound of pathways I have wed
Each path a ghost of candlesticks
The tallow gone and so the wicks

They are the ash of former ways
The charging into windmill days
Searching for the will-o’-the wisp
A journey once was primal crisp

And now it’s filled with fragile moss
And just a pinch of sorrows loss
The look has turned a babbles wake
My lance into a humble rake

Nothing tastes the same or chaste
All has lost its spice of taste
My youth and roar that once was prime
Has now grown weak with age and time

No longer do I search the coup
But taste each morning’s early dew

Just beautiful, Seymour. But, you know, I do my best to stay away from chaos.

It's just accepting the things that happen.

Beautifully expressed!

The rake fits your hand so much better than the lance.    I'm glad you are "keeping the garden"

Hello Seymour.

wow-I've been playing with the concept of age, change, and memory. 'How to' reconcile what I've had, and what I'll probably never have again, and feel at peace, instead of feeling like I'm missing out. Your poem's sparking me to get my brain in gear.

There's a quote "The older we get, the harder it gets, to keep these minds and souls in check" By Roots Manuva.

What you've said...to paraphrase, "nohing tastes...like the first time"?

I've been feeling that, looking around for a fresh new high, yet there's a niggle that I should concentrate on building up the highs I've already collected in my memory, to make them stronger, and longer lasting.

A very thoughtful piece, and it's reinforcing  the positive feelings I'm beginning to have about growing older...although the idea of saying goodbye to my sparkly lancing suit fills me with a dried-up woe!
