I saw the dance once,
The dance of joy on wind
when birds swirled upward
in figure eights
rejoicing for their wings
just glad to be birds, they were
and celebrating flight
but what I saw seemed
miraculous
and brought tears
into my eyes.

Oh, Jo, I know so well how this happens but I'm not yet sure why  - just to mess up the vision would seem rather counter productive.  Maybe we should learn to jump (for joy) instead but that's not very discreet or dignified.  Enjoyed, dear lady!

Oh, jo! Yes! ~ That glorious sky dance of joyous birds! I adore this poem and am tucking it into my special treasure trove!

Our bodies may not be able to soar into the skies with such free abandon, but our spirits and minds can!

May you fly high and as free as a birdie!

to view
free flight
relases our
own earthly chains,
what else could we do but cry?

put it back!

There is always something to be found
through observations...

and you did just that, Jo!

In spirals,
I have danced
this dance of joy
upon the wind.
In figure eights,
I shall ALWAYS dance.
And within the resting
place of every foul bird...
I sing !!!!

Oh, Jo!  A friend of mine lives on a houseboat.  One day, when I was visiting, I saw just what you have penned.  Just prior to a storm coming in, as the wind picked up, perhaps 500 gulls took to gliding the thermals.  I was mesmerized, and never felt so tethered to the earth in all my life!  Later, my friend sent me a picture of them laminated to a post card.  I adore this poem!   ~Klassy

"I saw the dance once,
The dance of joy on wind"

There is a picture, I saw many years ago before computers and digitals photos; I think it may have been taken on one of the Hillary climbs, where geese are flying over the top of Everest...WAY over the top.

Every species brings to creation awarenesses that are unique.  The freedom of flight as a casual way of life certainly is one contribution of the spirit of birds.

Very well done!
