wisp

It is
something like the
ripple
of a stranded mayfly’s
wing,
ten miles upstream,
moments before the
nova’s
forlorn little blast,
within
some far-red-shifted
nebula,
a thing that matters
to one fish,
searching
in some never stream
upon some never
planet,
and because I feel
such things
a billion years before
the shock front
will arrive,
to me.

It is a matter of
proportion;
some things that are
much nearer,
matter less.

I am, but you've got me beat by a year so read on!

....and oh yes, she matters so much I can't put it into words, and fail miserably when I try.

such things

And I'm so glad you do... for your perception and perspective enrich us immensely. *S*

Oh, my goodness!  This little ripple hit me in the solar plexus!  My favourite part is all of it and my second favourite part is:

and because I feel
such things
a billion years before
the shock front
will arrive,
to me

The part about the stranded mayfly's wing
is just too shattering for me to allow that to be a favourite part - but it would have been if it weren't so shattering.

Please tell me what the nova is?  Is it referring to the mayfly or is it a boat or is it something else?

Magnficent microcosm poem.  My insides are still quivering.

Well....when a star reaches the end of its life, the heat inside it isn't quite enough to keep it from collapsing....but when it does collapse, that falling-in makes a huge concentration of heat energy and concentrates its last remaining hydrogen, so that suddenly it overheats and explodes! The explosion is enough to vaporize any planets it has, and causes it to shine brighter (for a very brief time) than the whole galaxy it's in.

So ye poor fishy would be doomed indeed, before his last meal arrived.....

Oh yes!

And these are the lines that
grabbed me and squeezed hard:

"a thing that matters
to one fish,
searching
in some never stream
upon some never
planet"
