Blithely, she paused
on lithe limbs and bare feet,
her tresses flowing and fair,
gathered her skirt with delicate hands,
danced o'er the descending stair.

Suddenly, like a small bird
takes to wing in soft
fluttering flight,
she skimmed the ground
with barely a sound,
aglow in the afternoon light.

Ephemeral and brilliant
as evening sun,
she quickly passed from view,
an evanescent wraith on the breeze,
a melody lilting in blue.

Beautiful!  I am so glad I saw her just in time, just before she disappeared.  Thanks for the moment.

Thank you and hugs to you all for coming by to read.

Heidi seemed mystical flying across campus. She was petite with white-blonde hair that hung in waves to her hips, and she wore long full flowing skirts in vivid colors with peasant blouses.  She really was a vision!

I'm pleased you enjoyed the pretty picture, too.

I much enjoyed this.  Reminds me of Shirley Temple, of course, and looking at a little delft blue creamer my Mom has with her picture on it.  *hugs*....jo

Iliana, I remember a blue delft creamer, too.  Maybe my grandmother had one.  My mom always loved Shirley Temple, but I didn't know who she was until I was older.  She was such a doll!

Walter, I am a little archaic in my style, but I was enchanted with some of the old poets.  I should reat Keats again.

Marge, a pleasure to make you smile, Dear Heart!  I'm happy you enjoyed this vignette.

Robert, thank you, too, for taking time to read this.  Thinking of Heidi, 'flow' is a wonderful word.

Klassy,

When looking for an old poem of mine, I was pulled in by your title.  Exquisite writing!
This needs to go back to the top and to my library!  A wonderful scene you paint!

Well, being a Swiss I immediately thought of our Swiss Heidi, the famous tale written by Johanna Spyri and you know what ... your wonderful words describe a kind of magic that fits this little girl of the Alps too! Her song is "Jodel" though!

Love the ethereal lightness of your poem.

Love,
Margherita

Margherita, I alway adored the story of your Swiss Heidi.  I didn't know her song, though.  Perhaps this Heidi could be Swiss, too.  I have no idea....  Thank you for sharing with me.

Hi, dear Dixie!  I have been playing with rhymes since childhood, and I began to write in earnest about the time this poem came to me. I don't write as often as I'd like as my muse is slow, but some of the poems are just gifts of the spirit--like this one.  I am a bit envious of those who write every day.  I am so glad you write your heart into your poetry and share, too.

Hugs,
Karen
