Just To Be A Friend

It's your hour of need
and yet I struggle and strain
just to be a friend to you,
to help you past this pain.

The years have left me angry,
hard, cold, and bitter,
but no one could ever say,
with any truth, I was a quitter.

Forgiveness is the Christian way,
helping others, a good deed,
I grit my teeth and bite my tongue
and I think I'm sure to bleed.

If I could only get past my hurt
so that I might help you through,
life would be so much better, but true,
for today, this is what I knew...
I did the best that I could do.

Dixie, you are a kind, caring, sensitive person, and as such, the hurting is natural.  Doing the best that you can do, is more than good enough, and wanting to help, even if you feel you aren't, is noble and worthy of the best of us, and that includes our Dixie.

Dixie,

Yes, I do believe that this is one of your most fine traits my friend--to do your Best.

...and this poem is no exception.

God bless,

an honestly thought provoking poem!  I am thinking there are times when many of us have failed to live up to our potential because we were stuck in the past with our emotions.  Limitations are very human, and also are our challenges and points for growth.  You are probably harder on yourself than anyone else! You tried, that is more than I could do at one point in my life. Healing does come, though, with letting go.  ~ Klassy

And the best that we can do is all God expects from us.
this flowed to my heart nicely
