Some are just names on a screen,
bits of useless information
stored on a server back in time,
no good for conversation

some are just letters on a page,
not worth the bother of any rage

some play roles and like the games
of one in use of several names

some live only on dirt and grime,
it's a shame and I have no time

but for the ones who seek to cleanse,
makes it worth it when some are friends.

For all the real and true people online, thank you

There are a few....and while I can't claim to be pristine, I hope to become one of them. You say truth here, and it's predictable that some folks won't like it...but I do.

I'm with ya on this one Dixie...it's confusing to me why, not to mention, very hurtful to find out I've been lied to by these people...pretty soon, you start to wonder who the heck your talking to and what else have they lied to you about...???
It is very deceiptful....to say the least...
I know those who are truthful about themselves, well, it's most evident, yanno?

So, I've lived and learned and keep most at a distance, my choice...and maybe I'm the one loosing out...but it sure saves me the time of trying to figure out, who is who...and the surprise & hurt of deceipt...

Well, Dixie, I have learned on here over the years (8)that everyone on here has a purpose, whether to make friends, express their lives by writing poetry, or being someone they wish they could be in another life.
Some are homebound, some choose to be. It is no different than in real life, Dixie...that people are not always as they appear and many have hidden agendas (even if they can't admit it) and you have to sort them out as to what degree you let them into your life...and what your moral code is.

Being more than one name on here isn't a reason to think someone is playing games, as many do so to write in a different tone or forum.
Some do hide from their real lives but most are worth the effort of being called "friend".

I genuinely need more than one name.  Wish I had thought of that.    Oh well, too late now.

I appreciate all of your comments and I really was curious to see who felt the same way that I do. I am grateful for the opinions.

This poem isn't as much about the names of those who deceive as it is for the ones who don't.  I appreciate genuine, truthful, open people.

I have come across 1½ people on here with an agenda, but didn't know anyone (here on Pip) was pretending to be who they weren't (as far as I can remember right now).  However, yes, I think I talk for everyone that we all understood that what you said in your own response to your poem, Dixie, was your main intention in the poem.  If being real and true and a friend ahd who we say we are puts us on your list of friends, I think (and know) that you regard me as a friend, and I most certainly regard you as a very good one.  I hope nobody has hurt you, but you sure as eggs, show that you are strong enough to withstand that - but still, hurting hurts, and you deserve not to be hurt.

Hugs

Dixie,  I have always enjoyed the way you
shoot straight from the hip and have a load
of guts to boot.  But,  I think you already
know that, doncha?

Yes indeed, well said, I agree wholeheartedly

I think at PIP as in daily life we all have wondered and questioned who is sincere and forthright and who wears a deceptive mask....such is life and over time you learn to follow your intuition....But, I'm hopeful that most at PIP are sincere and truly do care about poetry and their friends here - I know I do
Thanks for sharing this!~

thanks all for such great outlooks here!

The internet seems to be a whole world in itself...email, chatrooms, IM, MySpace, etc...many ways to play with people like they are toys or prey on people as if they were dinner.

I have found that PIP is a safe refuge mostly full of good people with golden hearts...and for that I am grateful.

Hello Passing Shadows. This write has a resonance for me, as a new member, I was contemplating a new user-name. I've been online for over a year now, under the name of kif kif, or onelove. However, because i've been on poetry forums as kif kif, I decided to use that handle here...mainly so i could post my previously written stuff, but also in case I meet someone from a different forum-I like to keep things straight-'know' who I'm talking to,  so I do the same.

I can understand why people use different names, tho. I've got a few from my past musical liasons, and I can see why poets flourish under a few monikers-it unleashes a freedom of style. That same freedom can turn on itself, though, if the poets/writers use their monikers to bully or manipulate others. I'd say, for online forums, people should stick to 'being themselves, under one name'.

Like life as a whole...there are honest and there are dishonest...however, within some formats on the internet it is easy to claim to be someone you are not...the wise ones stay away from those formats and gravitate to those that seem to be safer...James
