Irrigating Arid Arias

In it comes
(the window like a welcome)
the Santa Ana of the day sky warm
across my resting skin
hot tub breath of healing

He wakes me to my might
a touch that I dream about
is the music playing in my hair
if I could just reach far enough
light sound laughter all singing there

The sunflowers are thinking water
I can hear them grumble
speaking in yellow,
the dirt loves the hose
where a tiny trickle of neglect
is like a mountain stream
to its need

Watch him like a rock to my river
calling to me from within my own neglect
I can feel it running up into me
and I am wet again with love

I will be the queen today
and witness the subjects of my crown
all nestled around the sprinkler,
oh, the power!
to turn it on just right
and waste not the precious secret
of blooming

The wind knows the curves within me
and his power folds my bones
until I am sky too
blowing beloved into trees

You brought me westerly again,
where the hills and valleys
sing the song of Santa Ana...

only you expressed him, or her,
is ways I never could...

this is an undeniable

I shouldn't have been surprised at the mention of sunflowers--but I was.

They are blooming wild superfluous here--and I would hug them if I thought my love wouldn't injure them...

Sunflowers...known for strength, since they can bloom in the wild anywhere and loyalty because their faces turn, to  follow the sun the whole day long.

I like to think that means something.

It must, right?

Indeed, Sunflowers do mean something special, serenity...
quote:
Sunflower lore says the sunflower brings blessings of the sun into your garden. If a woman wants to conceive, she should eat the seeds. Even if it did not work, at least she would be eating healthy snacks while she waits. Excerpt, http://www.rainyside.com/features/plant_gallery/annuals/Helianthus_annuus.html

also,

The sunflower was a popular subject of common folk wisdom. It was thought that cutting a sunflower at sunset while making a wish would ensure that the wish would come true the next day. A person wanting to know the truth in any matter might take to sleeping with sunflowers under the bed. Seeds would be worn about the neck in hopes of protecting the wearer from smallpox. And growing the flower in one's yard was thought to bring good luck to the gardener. Excerpt, "http://www.navletsgardens.com/newsletter/sunflower_folklore.html"    [/quote]

Martie's poems are certainly indicative of love, life, and growth, all which bend, at one time or another, to the wind.

Oh, the power!  The power of this poem!  This is magnificent!  Dare I say the best I have ever read of all your poems when they are all masterpieces?  Not only am I going to save this in my Martie folder, I am also going to print it out and read it over and over and over again tonight.  You are a wordsmith par excellence!  When I read your poetry, it feels to me as though the English language was created especially for you, because you have such masterful control of it to paint it at its most magnificent/beautiful/delicate/all-sorts-of-other-adjectives.

Martie,

Having spent much time during the past few days in the yard in 90+ degree weather fighting crab grass, watering, etc. etc. your words here for sure have given me new life and inspiration to keep gardening at least for all my little budding green dependents. Thank You.

Enjoyed reading.

this rolls off the tongue, Martie!
oh, I'm seeing a brilliant yellow,
a fields of van Gogh intensities
bobbing their heads in blue

sunflower goddesses waving hello

Martie,

Your poetry is lovely!  (That right brain of yours seems to be quite in tact, working well with the left!  Hoping your recovery is speeding along.)

A very enjoyable read!  You are quite a painter!

awesome pieces of POEtree.....  I love your
words,  the way you make things out of
