I knew Love Once

I knew love once,
truly, I think I did…

Dividing, not the words
from the deeds,
nor the companionship
of lips and eyes, or needs,
but the entire world
wrapped up in the daily news…

But to have and to hold forever written
is beyond today’s horizon…

Somewhere lost at sea
Somewhere I know it was there.
Truly, I think,
I knew love once…

I find, some single poets, only allow others so close, due to knowing that love...once...never wanting to experience the agony of that pain again...which knows us on a first name basis, yanno?
maybe if we learn to love ourselves, the world will once again be in love

Nice to see ya kiddo

well done!

Of course you did, JL, but at the time you probably didn't recognize it for what it was.  Love doesn't give up though - it may find you again.  Good write - enjoyed the read.  Thanks.

Thank you all so much for your kind replies.
Honeybunch, you are so right.
Most of my writings are ambiguous, at best,
but you put your finger on it right off the bat.
Appreciate!

Then know it again,
somewhere, soon...

that you write of the nuance
as well as you did here...

you spoil us, JL

and I appreciate that.

Dear J L,
Your poem is a wonderful piece of work. That was a good job of poem writing. That has to be in the top five best poems I have read on this site so far. Good job. Keep on writing.

I like these lines, the confidence with a tinge of pondering doubt .. "I know it was there - I think."  I feel like that often, and you captured it beautifully

Hi there JL
Ah! Love! What a feeling of happiness it brings. Lighter then air we become or we wind up being dashed on the rocky shores of life.
I write some of my thoughts that seen to make sense I call it

BonBon Philosophy.

Put your love in a bottle and throw it out to sea. And in time it will come back to thee thrice. This love that
returns by way of the sea will be in a
touch, a smile and a soft spoken word.

Hugs BonBon
