Another old one.

***************

You've been gone awhile now.
I've finally faced the fact...

There's no waking from this nightmare.
There's no prayer to bring you back.

I'll try to find my way, dear
But, I never will forget

My greatest wish is to hold you near
But it's not my time yet

It's not the way I want it
But somehow life goes on.

Each night, I cry myself to sleep
Then face another dawn.

I'll try to rise above the sorrow
There's not a day you wont be missed

But, looking back wont ease tomorrow
And I can't go on like this.

I've got to walk this lonesome valley
I have to sail my ship alone

Until I meet you on that other shore
I'll try to carry on

Friends say...
No one knows what tomorrow holds...
That I can't let life go by.

So, each day I cover up my tears
I smile and live a lie.

They say...
There's no time like the present
To live a little...
And so...   I try...

But, there's no time like the past...

to make me cry.

The feeling this hits right at the core...

achingly beautiful...such profound sadness.

I bet you could write songs well!

"When life gives you sorrow, may you experience the spirit of laughter"

These lines are so true:

"They say...
There's no time like the present
To live a little...
And so...   I try..."

And Yes this poem does go right to the heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uriah,

This reminded me so much of one of my oldest poems that I just had to post it here ("On Parting"). I'll post the backstory later, but I suspect there is common ground between us. I have always felt that this poem was among my best for the same reason I loved yours. Not so much because of the artistic craftsmanship, but because it so perfectly expressed the emotion and experience of the moment. Perhaps that is, when all is said and done, the truest measure of poety: capturing experience and sharing it.

Thanks for a obviously heart-felt sharing, and for saying it so very well.

A poem's just a poet in a word.

Many things are always easier said... then done. Very heartfelt, thank you for sharing.
