Glitz-n-Glamour

Spotlights glare,
melting the pavement
where the beautiful walk.
We stare--mesmerized,
as if we are looking upon
the images of Gods.

The faux furs with diamond cuffs.
Breasts perfect, always firm
and pointing in the right direction.
Teeth, brilliantly white and
in their appropriate places.
Smiles that blind, hiding the
filth of the city.

They give their royalty waves
as we devour their attention.
The Kings and Queens dismount
our paltry, peasant-like passions.

--We seek your perfection!

We dream of being like them.
We mimic their movements,
we grovel for their shrines.

How we long for the happiness
that has succeeded in invading
their very presence, while we
dine ala carte on despair.

And when they go to their
pristine castles that hide
from the eyes of the flock,
they'll down a few pills
with a shot of whiskey.

Removing the faux furs,
their flesh is withered
from self-induced deprivation.
The beautiful blond wig comes off
to find a head weary in it's
lack of lustrous locks.

Their beautiful teeth,
now sit in a jar
next to the pain pills
in the bathroom with imported
Italian tile, since the pain of
the latest breasts implants
heaves a heavy blow each night.

They crawl into their
eighteenth century four poster bed,
the one that a famous poet
slept in so many years ago
and turn their backs to each other.

The booze and pills are taking
their affects now and the numbing
release is apparently close
as their eyelids flutter and
finally close...

One teardrop escapes before
their glitz-n-glamour dreams begin.
It found solace upon the
French downy comforter,
where at least it felt passion
before it finally dissolved
into the emptiness.

"Smiles that blind, hiding the
filth of the city"
Having lived in Hollywood many years ago,
I grin at this in understanding.
Faux faces, indeed.
