Between the Lines

The sun came up on the slow side
of my senses this morning,
as I claim it for my own..
submerging in its warmth,
brushing a stray hair out of my eyes.

Captured in more ways than one
I watch the day rise, punishing myself
by the early hours, yet enjoying its
first embrace.

I can feel the looking forward
of the day ahead... old stories
memorializing and honoring
the key to what makes this nation great.

Lucky to have the sparing of the aged and wise,
still able to visit and see eyes
that hold the joy of living...

Today is that kind of day,
as I surrender any present-day-worries
to share in these memories.
