(Here's a new power ballad I've written, inspired by feeling very reflective as of late, being a thousand miles away from all my old friends from my home-state and being out of contact from them, and basically about the deep emotions that anyone can have missing their friends and loved ones soooooooo much. The italicized line in the ballad is an actual note my art teacher friend at Denver Academy, Ms. Dunlap, wrote in my senior year yearbook, which I still cry reading every time, thus decided to make it the emotional bridge in the song.

I chose this as my milestone post as tens of thousands of parents are watching their children graduate all around the nation and I felt though I usually prefer to have an upbeat post as a milestone post, many can relate to the emotions of this write, as of course I haven't been a parent yet but the thought alone of watching someone move on and spread their wings can choke me up and make my eyes sting with tears, both out of joy for how proud I am for that someone, and out of gentle sadness for missing that someone. )

Yearbook
By: Noah Eaton
5/26/06

Kevin Beasley became the first state qualifier,
on our cross-country team,
you could clearly see his determination,
and leadership gleam,
he ran as though tomorrow was merely just a dream,
he touches me,
he touches me,
you see, I was never the fastest one in the fleet,
I was like the shy tortoise braving the sleet,
always going the extra mile with my coach believing in me,
it emboldened me,
it emboldened me...

Andy Franz, he had a sense of humor that was clarion,
his life-long dream is to become a veterinarian,
drive a red car, become a baseball champion,
in him I believe,
I believe,
he graduated with me in the Class of 2002,
he and hundreds more flooded my field of view,
as I made my valedictory speech that sunny June,
in the spring breeze,
in the spring breeze...

Looking back into my yearbook,
matching each familiar voice with a face,
even after all this time it’s hard to say...
...goodbye...
.
.
.
Cameron Strickland sat with me in English in my freshman year,
he acted up in class up to Christmas, but after New Years,
I swear an angel reached an ear and helped him persevere,
it inspires me,
it inspires me,
after winning many hearts over, heartbreak thundered the 4th of July,
the innocent victim of a car crash up on the mountainside,
it’s a crime to die when you have so much more life,
it makes me weep,
it makes me weep...

...reaching back to him in my yearbook,
matching his familiar voice with his face,
even after all this time it’s hard to say...
...goodbyyyyyyeeeeee...

...hitching my wagon to the lodestar,
going wherever I go with all of my heart,
but even after all this time it’s hard to say...
...goodbye...
.
.
The past is ours, the future belongs to you,
now belong to the world,
I feel honored to have met you,
I know our paths will cross again...

...but always remember,
you are heading into the "best" years of your life,
so prepared with all your wonderful characteristics,
and gifts,
so until next time...

...best of wishes, and amen...

.
.
.
.
.
My heart keeps sojourning upon that sentimental place,
I swear I could re-live every one of these days,
guess the only constant thing is change,
but you shouldn’t have to leave,
shouldn’t have to leave,
I guess I should try not to keep looking back,
and just breathe it all in, be grateful for all I have,
rest assured deep down their memories of me will always last,
and they will see,
and they will see...
.
.
.
.
.
...looking back in their yearbooks,
they’ll match my familiar voice with my face,
knowing even after all this time...

...it’s still hard to say...
.
.
.
...goodbye...
.
.
.
.
.
.

Noah, as always you are thoughtful, tender hearted, and so sweetly kind...I wish every one of your old friends could read this. They would cherish it.

This is such a keeper Noah.

(and congratulations on your Pip milestone!)

Noah,

just tonight my husband and I
went through his yearbook of
'62...

and he was relating to me the ones
that are no longer with us...

and the ones that truly followed
their dreams;

and the ones that let their dreams died.

This poem of Yearbook
struck me hard...and I am very proud
that you were able to write it
at such a young time in your life.

Well done, Noah.

a milestone is one step out of many,
one placement, one memory that draws others
together even if never crossed ...

you are a success in your own step!

I recall a few of the early ones from the meadow ...
you have certainly reached a milestone!

and should know who elude us
