The sands. shifting softly beneath
the arch of her foot.  Granules gripping
tenaciously to the heel...whisked away by
some rogue wave that silently slipped ashore.

It was there, as I followed those tattletale
signs of her that only the grave could  take
away...It was there that the scent of her
drew me into a shuffling trance, in
search of the elusiveness of a feminine
sway.

Each precise step racing, struggling to
catch the next.  Following the water’s edge,
disappearing sporadically as the rushing
brine swallowed one then raced seaward
once again.

And it was there, that place along a
desolate seashore, trimmed by dunes
and reeds.....There where the gull
lazily stood and kept a wary eye.
A place where life stopped...

For it was there she turned seaward,
tears streaming from beautiful blue eyes.
There amongst the foam and gentle surges
of waves born days before as a feather of
wind pushed each wave landward.  There,
beyond the shells and sand crabs....the only
place I knew....that she took one last
breath and left our earth behind....as her
tears mingled with my own...and I prayed
it was but a dream.

"sigh"

Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance.
