Moved from a shack to a barn

S.E.T.I is searching, or rather, listening
For evidence we aren’t alone in the wilderness

Listening, as a maid would
While laying abed in the dark of night

Expectant and intent
For a lover’s rustle at her window

S.E.T.I is awaiting news from the hinterlands
That merfolk, cloud dwellers, or apes like us
May also be clinging to lumps of galactic detritus

Having become too passive to continue the search
I too, content myself to listen

Past the scuttling of mice in the ceiling
Out to where the treetops whisper their secrets

And beyond

Oh, yes, many end up just listening and even when we hear, we still have doubts - not me though.  I'm with Martie on this one!

Sometimes, that's when we learn the most. *S*

Enjoyed this! *S*

They're out there, listening back.  Wishing we'd say something worth hearing I think.
