I opened my minds journal last night
And leafed through the pages of my life.
I saw my childhood written,
In spidery, innocent hand.
The pages littered
With smiling sketches
Of the princess I thought I would be.

I read about my dreams as they blossomed
Like the first, fragile blooms of spring
And as the pages turned
I saw each petal fall, withered,
To the frozen ground,
Taking my dreams with them.

I reached out and caught one,
Held it for just a fleeting moment,
A hopeful moment,
But it was not mine to keep
And it died in the palm of my hand.

The writing changed,
The sketches erased,
As I realised that the Knight
Would never find my door.
Dark places,
Hidden from me as a child,
Suddenly enticed me
And I fell into false arms.

I nursed the bruises
That others could not see
And smiled for those
Who shared my fake world,
Writing the truth on invisible pages
To be hidden from view
In a room with no doors.

My past is written and cannot be changed,
But the words fade and today
Only a single tear fell as I read.
The remaining pages lie
Virginal and untouched,
Waiting for a life
I’ve yet to live.

In my minds eye
I pick up the pen once more
And on the next page I draw a rose,
Its petals unfurling
In the warmth of a new day.
I stand again on a precipice
And I hold out my hand as the hoof beats
Of a long distant dream draw near.

I had notebooks,
that held the sketch
of roses...

roses and eyes...with long lashes;
and sometimes three dimensional boxes...

I was waiting,
for the I to see the leaves
of words...

and the boxes waited
to be filled...

thank you, Kalandria,
for the memories....
