 Photographer: Lang Elliott Birdsong ~ Linda L. Dowd ~ I awoke to the cooing Of a dove on the sill, And to the sweet melody Of a meadowlark's trill. The robins were chirping As they welcomed in spring, And from up in the treetops Tiny sparrows did sing. The mew-calls of catbirds And the buntings’ loud voicing, Joined the musical refrains Of birdsong rejoicing. Goldfinches did twitter, Hummingbirds hummed in tune, With thrushes and starlings And the lone call of loon. The orioles were whistling As scarlet tanagers sang, And all through the morning Their sweet musicals rang. Chickadees and blackbirds And cardinals and jays, Joined the chorus of warblers In a singsong of praise. I awoke to a morning Filled with glorious singing, Of songbirds rejoicing What the new day was bringing. “Happiness is a state of mind. Think happy! ~ Be happy!” ~ Linda L. Dowd |

Good morning, Dixie! I acutally did wake this morning to a dove cooing on my window sill. I could also hear the chirping of birds and was duly inspired to write this poem.  I got a chuckle out of your comment about the croaking tree frog.   Linda  |

Lovely poem and picture, Linda! Your birdy friends were telling you the wonderful news that Skyfire's Shammie is fine! Uriah, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I also love the music of frogs. Linda, What beautiful words you composed here. I have woods on three sides of me, listen to the birds,tree frogs all singing during the day,the owls at night. The photograph is also very lovely. Have a great evening. Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, |

loved the sounds of your words~~ if it would stop being overcast I might hear the birds singing too ( right now I only hear hungry baby birds chirping in the mornings...nests are everywhere in my trees) M |
